Bankhead Highway PageBlog Post – The Bankhead highway was one of the earliest transcontinental routes across the United States. One end in Washington DC, the other in San Diego, CA. The route through Texas was from Texarkana through Dallas, Fort Worth, Abeline, Midland, Odessa, and El Paso. Earliest was an auto trail, later became state Highway 1, then US Highways 67 and 80, Finally Interstates 30, 20, and 10 though the State.

Route 66 Page – Blog Post – No list of historic Texas highways is complete unless Route 66 “The Mother Road” is included. This was once the preeminent trail to the sea from the middle of the country. From Chicago to LA, Route 66 was traveled by thousands looking for a better life. Through Texas the trip was rather short across the high plains of the panhandle from Shamrock to Glenrio, through Amarillo.
