County – Introduction
We’ve been to Somervell County several times. The county is named for Alexander Somervell, Secretary of War for the Republic of Texas. It is a favorite for a day trip, or a sleepover. Dinosaur Valley State Park is a must see, especially for the kids. And a ride through Fossil Rim Wildlife Center for an up close and personal experience with animals from far off lands. The pristine serenity of parks and sights along the Paluxy River, as well as the Brazos River, very nice museums and shopping in Glen Rose.
Somervell County / Glen Rose, Texas, is an easy 3 day weekend. There is so much to do within a few miles of the town square. Shopping, Tubing down the Brazos River, Touring several museums / heritage centers / old buildings. The State park, and fossil rim can provide hours to days of entertainment for the young, as well as the young at heart.

There is also a much newer Annex, 1986, in which most of the county offices are now located. The historic courthouse appears to be more of a museum piece than an actual working courthouse, at this point.
